Victor Basta is Founder and Managing Partner of Magister Advisors.
He has advised on over 120 transactions across 25 years, and helped found and build three successful corporate finance firms in the process. His orientation has always been towards sell-side M&A, where experience and creativity can yield real additional value to investors and founders of later stage growth companies
At Magister, Victor has handled a large number of the firm’s transactions personally. He has clear views on a range of issues affecting the tech industry today, and has shared them regularly on CNN, the FT and the Economist amongst others. Victor is proud of the reputation he has gained over the years of helping growth companies achieve exceptional outcomes, often in the context of being sold to large US buyers.
Prior to founding Magister, Victor was founder and managing partner of Arma Partners LLP; global co-head of Broadview prior to its sale to Jefferies, and an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD, as well as past President of the UK/Irish Tech Tour. He received an MBA from the Columbia Business School, and a combined Masters and BA in International Affairs from Columbia University.
When not negotiating deals, Victor is an avid chess player (once ranked in the top 15 in the US), a reference collector of 1960’s vintage rock posters, and an enthusiastic and improving skier and diver.
The Magister Advisors culture – and its reputation – attract global talent to the firm. Here are the views of some of the firm’s junior professionals:
I chose to join Magister Advisors given its almost exclusive focus on sellside transactions (both M&A and late stage growth equity financings), its deep sector knowledge of Technology, and its relentless focus on actually understanding clients’ businesses in depth and extracting the real positioning points which stands in stark contrast to my experience at other firms.
Magister Advisors combines a tech focus, an entrepreneurial environment and high levels of creativity. I chose the firm because of its reputation and for the opportunity with high calibre professionals.
